WEDDINGS AT THE CHALFONTE
Those visiting for the first time are struck by the simplicity and comfort of the hotel and its amenities! Those already familiar with the Hotel, many of them lifelong guests, arrive with very specific and creative ideas for using special areas of the Hotel for their celebrations.
When future brides and grooms visit The Chalfonte to consider their wedding and reception  site, they are enchanted with the many possibilities and options that the Hotel facilities and staff can provide. The Chalfonte's "Wedding Tree" at the rear of the property is a lovely willow, with a perfect sized lawn to seat guests — a private intimate setting for your vows. Then, after the ceremony, your guests can gravitate to the long porches of the Hotel, and gather and mingle and celebrate with you on our sweeping verandas.
Each season welcomes beautifully planned weddings by the couples, with personal touches and wonderful stories.  One couple, Ali Naqvi and Linda Holliday (pictured at right) said:
"We had hoped to have a wedding event which brought together our closest friends and relatives in such a way that they actually had an opportunity to get to know each other. We have been blessed with knowing many wonderful people, from around the world, whose company we cherish. Our Labor Day Weekend plans turned into such a gathering. From Thursday to Monday — with many shared meals, our own beach encampment, hours on the Chalfonte’s great porches — an atmosphere of wonderful familiarity was created. By the time we had our wedding ceremony and dinner party, everyone felt genuinely connected. One of our favorites is the story of a Waterford cake knife purchased in Ireland by one groom while traveling some years ago with classmates. When asked by one female classmate why he was buying the knife, he looked her in the eye and calmly said, "It's for our wedding cake." He knew she was the woman he would marry, years before they even started dating. He presented the knife to her on their wedding eve — of course she remembered the scene in Ireland, and when he told the tale, not a dry eye remained in the room.

"How we picked the Chalfonte: Pure Luck!
My husband (then fiance)- wanted to surprise me with a weekend "getaway". In reality, he hadn't booked a hotel at all! (I learned this on the way down to Cape May) His thinking was that since it was the first weekend after Labor Day, there would surely be a million options. Wrong! We actually called the Cape May chamber of commerce and was given the Chalfonte as one of the last places that had availability. Sure enough, we booked our room, and fell in love with the Chalfonte's charm instantly. About 1 hour later, on the porch in a rocking chair, my husband proposed to me. (Was the most romantic moment of my entire life).
About 6 months later, we decided that we wanted our wedding to be more of a weekend getaway for all our guests. Since the Chalfonte just amazed us to begin with, we wanted our wedding to have the same feel. It turned out to be the wedding of my dreams! In fact, everyone had such a great time, that my family is planning on having a reunion during the same time next year, at none other than the beautiful Chalfonte! It is truly a special place.
