DINING IN THE NATIONALLY ACCLAIMED MAGNOLIA ROOM!
The Magnolia Room is a traditional dining room/restaurant renowned for its Southern fare as well as a daily grilled fish selection and vegetarian entree. The Magnolia Room serves breakfast and dinner to our hotel guests and to any visitor to Cape May who wants a wonderful dining experience.
The Southern cuisine was brought to the Hotel by its second owners,The Satterfield family of Richmond, Virginia. Acclaimed for
her skill as well as for her spirit, the late Miss Helen Dickerson presided over the Chalfonte kitchen for more than 60 years, serving "soul food with its Sunday clothes on."
The tradition of Southern cuisine is carried on by her daughters Lucille Thompson and Dot Burton, with a menu that includes crab cakes, yeast risen rolls, corn pudding, spoon bread, fried chicken and many other scrumptious things
like blueberry cobbler and lemon meringue pie.
The Chalfontes dining reputation is one that capitalizes on its proximity to farmlands and the sea, offering a vegetarian entree and a grilled fresh fish entree nightly. Families with children are encouraged to take advantage of the Children's Activity Room, a fully supervised "dining and entertainment" room that is designed for our guests who are 3 to 8 years of age. For the dining pleasure of all of our guests, we suggest that families dining with their children in the Magnolia Room, do so during our designated "Family Time" between 6 and 7 pm.
