WELCOME TO THE GRAND DAME OF CAPE MAY!!
The Chalfonte Hotel, Cape May’s enduring Historic Site in the National Historic Landmark City, celebrates her 132nd anniversary in 2008. Victorian Cape May’s beloved Chalfonte was built in 1876, by Colonel Henry Sawyer, and since that time she has defied conventional definitions of "hotel."
The Chalfonte is located just three blocks from the beautiful Cape May beaches, white and expansive. The Hotel is single, couple, group and family-friendly, and features 70 rooms, some with private baths and others with shared baths on the hall. It's part of the unique culture and community of the Chalfonte that provide you with accommodations with history, traditions and value.
"We greatly enjoyed our stay here. It's wonderful that such a civilized establishment can still thrive! The Chalfonte is an exquisit lodging place, and we will definitely take chambers here again!" - Jean Murley, NYC
Guests have chosen the Chalfonte because they are offered more than a place to stay. Unfettered by modern pressures, guests keep coming back again and again, to experience the tranquility and charm, and the locale and culture. With the draw of the beaches, the activities available on the Cape, and the Hotel's extensive calendar of concerts, workshops, events and exhibits, The Chalfonte is a perfect "home base" for you, our guest.
"It was a thrill to be at the Chalfonte and continue the tradition our family started in 1924 - 77 years! The Chalfonte is very special to each of us." - Martha Williams, 2001 Guest
She is a sight to behold, with her wrap-around verandas, Italianate cupola and size, giving the Chalfonte a distinctive profile. Guests of the hotel are quite convinced that a perfect place to enjoy Cape May's breezes and sightsee are on the Chalfonte's numerous porch rockers!
"I enjoy the simplicity of a stay at the Chalfonte and the absence of commercial ''sell." The building is lovely, gracious, and a big plus for me!"
Visitors cannot resist snapping pictures from every imaginable angle, earning the hotel the moniker of "most photographed building in Cape May." The Hotel lends itself to unusual photo ops and has stopped many visitors in their tracks, sending them reaching for camera or sketchbook.
"It's delightful to know that a place exists where families will come that has no air-conditioning, phones or TV. It's testimony to tradition and family rituals; a part of Americana is still alive and well."
"The Chalfonte is therapy for a too hectic world."
